Here are some tips to help you out on your search.
The style of our treasure hunts, difficulty level, prize values, and guidelines may vary from hunt to hunt.
The prize itself will not likely be hidden. Unless otherwise stated in the specific hunt guidelines, you are searching for a “secret code” that will be used to claim the treasure. If you find it, don’t share it on social media before you claim your prize. We may refer to the “treasure” as being at the location, but treasure is not actually there, it’s just easier than explaining it every time.
We typically design our hunts to last anywhere between 2 and 7 days, but this could vary quite a bit. Other than free promotions, there are no random drawings, the winner will be the person or group that solved the clues and got to the “secret code” first. Remember, close only counts with horseshoes and hand grenades. Hints may or may not be given if the hunt is lasting too long, and all participants will have access to hints at the same time. Check your emails frequently during a hunt.
Our hunts are typically partial armchair treasure hunts. This means that you should be able to solve some of the clues, riddles, and ciphers without leaving your house. In order to claim a prize, you must go BOTG (boots on the ground) and go to the location that you have decoded to finish the hunt. You will likely need additional clues that can be found nearby, so you won’t be able to solve everything from home. Don’t expect to wander around and find the code. If you solve all of the clues that we provide, they will lead you to the secret code.
If you’re the first to the encoded location, you simply email a picture of the secret code that we have hidden, and the prize is yours!
In some cases, the answers to all clues, riddles, and ciphers will be revealed after the prize has been claimed.
The code will be hidden on public property, or a location where the public is welcome. For example, the Walmart parking lot may be private property, but the public is generally welcome there during business hours. Don’t go anywhere that you shouldn’t be, you will not find the secret code there.
Don’t go anywhere dangerous! All codes will be hidden in a place that your average person can get to. If you find yourself climbing a tree to look for a code, you’re in the wrong place. ABSOLUTELY NO boating or swimming will be required. It will not benefit you to search in a roadway or disrupt traffic in any way.
You will not need to destroy property in order to find a code. At most, light digging may be needed, not shovel digging, more like find-a-stick-nearby and push the pine needles aside digging. Don’t destroy any grass or plants, the code is not there. If digging is required, correctly solving the clues will likely be the only way to find the precise location.
Please be nice! Mean comments on social media will hurt our feelings. We are a family business doing this because we absolutely love the sense of adventure that comes with hunting for real world treasure. Not everyone is going to win, but please keep in mind that you are paying for the experience.
Don’t knock over any old ladies or small children in order to beat them to a location.
